What it actually is

Sensibo Air is a small Wi-Fi and infrared device that sits near your air conditioner, mini-split, or window unit and learns its remote control's signals. Once it's paired, you get scheduling, geofencing (the AC turns on before you get home, off when you leave), voice-assistant control, and usage tracking through an app — layered on top of whatever cooling hardware you already own. It is worth being precise about what this is not: Sensibo doesn't cool a room by itself. If you don't already have an AC, a mini-split, or a window unit with a working remote, there's nothing for it to control.

Real background, not marketing copy

Sensibo was founded in November 2013 in Tel Aviv by Omer Enbar and Ran Roth. The idea reportedly started years earlier, when Enbar rigged up his own way to email his home AC on before biking back from work. That kind of origin story is common in tech marketing, but in this case the company that grew out of it is real and still operating more than a decade later, with offices in both Tel Aviv and Redwood City, California — not a storefront that appeared and disappeared inside a single product cycle.

Independent reviews of Sensibo's hardware are easy to find from outlets with a track record of testing this category: CHOICE, the Australian consumer-testing organization, has reviewed it; so have TechHive and The Ambient, both of which cover smart-home hardware as a beat. That's a meaningfully different evidence base than a single glowing "expert score" with no named reviewer attached to it — and for what it's worth, we saw one such score (an "8.2/10 expert consensus") circulating on aggregator sites that doesn't trace back to any of the outlets above or anyone else we could identify. We're not citing it, and readers should be skeptical of unlabeled scores like it in general.

One competitor worth naming honestly: the Cielo Breez Plus gets positive coverage from outlets like TechHive, Gear Diary, and Pocketables, and its onboard display is a real point in its favor over Sensibo's display-less design. But when we tried to independently verify the company background behind the Breez Plus, our searches kept surfacing an unrelated Brazilian company called Cielo S.A. rather than a clearly documented maker. That's a verification gap on our end, not a defect in the product — but given a choice between two IR controllers with comparable core function, we default to the one with a decade of traceable company history.
